Hi all, just got a bit of a problem I'm wondering if anyone has ever faced before. My college, in it's infinite wisdom, has installed something called simantec antivirus on my laptop. The problem is, they set it to only update from there server, which is only availible if one is connected to the LAN. To compound the folley, the afore-mentioned server went down just a month after this instalation was performed. I cannot modify the server from which the antivirus updates, it says I do not have the rights, though I am an admin. So I decided to remove the blasted thing and use AVG or something. The moment I try to remove it, it asks me for a removal password! Now, both of the tech people at my college, left, at the end of last july, so the pwds they used are now unknown. Is there anything barring a reformat that I can do to get rid of this thing that won't update?
Boy, that's a good one. Maybe call semantic and see if they have an administrative password. Why do you have to be connected to the server for this thing to work? Worst case, you could probably just not update it--granted not a good solution for antivirus--but I guess you could still install AVG and just turn the semantic thing off.

I've heard that two antivirus checkers on the same system will conflict like hell and that's it never a good idea to install them together. That's what's held me back from doing exactly that.
If you can completely disarm norton it shouldn't be a problem however, I don't know if it can be completely disarmed. I have tried turning the auto protect off but it still seems to do Things.
